The EJU Gala following the 73rd EJU congress, hosted by the Turkish Judo Federation, took place on Saturday 4th of December. Present in Turkey were both Kosovan Olympic champions, Distria Krasniqi and Nora Gjakova and double Olympic champion Lukas Krpalek, each presented with awards by IJF Vice President and EJU President Mr Sergey Soloveychik.
Unable to travel to Turkey, Clarisse Agbegnenou (FRA) and Lasha Bekauri (GEO) we’re happy to have their awards accepted by French Judo Federation President, Mr Stephane Nomis and Mr Bekauri’s personal coach, Mr Aleks Ghvinashvili.
Europe collected a record number of Olympic medals in Tokyo this summer, 16 in the individual event, raised to 17 with the mixed team event. Thus, beside the five Olympic champions hailing from European countries, representatives of all the national judo federations whose athletes won medals during the Tokyo Olympic Games, were also given recognition.
European countries with one or more medals won at the Tokyo Olympic Games: Austria, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Georgia, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Kosovo, Netherlands, Portugal, Russian Olympic Committee, Slovenia and Ukraine.
Congratulations to all medallists and the European Judo Union for their outstanding results and now everyone is ready to focus on Paris 2024.
