The Kodokan will celebrate the World Judo Day and the birth anniversary of Kano Jigoro Shihan (born October 28th, 1860) who created Kodokan Judo and who is called the FATHER OF EDUCATION and FATHER OF THE OLYMPIC GAMES IN JAPAN.

Kano Shihan was committed to the promotion of Japanese physical education and sports, and he also contributed to the development of the Olympic Movement as the first Asian member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

This year, October 28th is celebrated as the start of the 1000-day-countdown to the Tokyo Olympics 2020.

October 28th has been chosen by the International Judo Federation as the World Judo Day, dedicated to the educational values of our sport throughout the world. This year's team is COURAGE. More information about the World Judo Day at: WJD Website
