Abu Dhabi offers an opportunity to reunite with the competitors that we had the chance to follow throughout a season which was rich in twists and turns and which began in January with the Portugal Grand Prix, followed by many events including the World Championships Doha 2023. Months have passed, months which have kept the suspense without interruption.
Today, once again, the display of high level judo was at its peak, with current world champions, world and Olympic medallists looking for the result that would guarantee their presence next year in Paris for the Olympic Games. For many others, who are still looking for a first participation in the Games, Abu Dhabi is a compulsory step.
Mr Marius Vizer, IJF President, and Dr Balazs Fürjes, IOC Member representing Hungary, were in attendance with many guests today and witnessed the strong start of team Italy, collecting two gold medals from the lightest women's categories, showing today's dynamic style of Italian judo. In the other categories, France and Georgia won their gold medal while Canada confirmed domination in the -57kg category with the two worlds champions, Deguchi and Klimkait, facing off for the glory, having in mind that everything is still possible for next year’s qualification for the Olympic Games.
