This edition of the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam has concluded with an incredible twenty-seven nations winning one medal or more. The spread of medals is astounding too with Europe, Asia, Africa and Pan-America all featuring athletes in the final block.

On this third and final day of competition, five different countries won gold medals, including the host nation. Yelyzaveta Lytvynenko (UAE) followed her magnificent world championship gold from only three weeks ago with a gold on home soil, ensuring the local organisers would have plenty to celebrate.

Among the gold medallists were Hassan Doukkali (MAR), now the owner of Morocco’s first ever grand slam gold, and Konul Aliyeva (AZE), the first Azerbaijani woman to win a gold at this level.

At the top of the medal table, by only a slim margin, are Azerbaijan, with two gold medals, a silver and two bronzes. Croatia were in second place with two gold medals and a bronze while France finished third with a gold and two silvers.

Historic firsts, an illustration of universality and a display of judo to remember; thank you for all of it Abu Dhabi!
