IJF Education and Coaching Commission Hosokawa Shinji led a four-day technical masteclass in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia in September for the Mongolian Judo Association.

The Los Angeles 1984 Olympic champion from Tenri University shared his expertise which inspired not only his own career to the greatest highs in the sport but also his protege Nomura Tadahiro to three Olympic gold medals.

Hosokawa guided 60 judoka through his tachi-waza an ne-waza drills as Mongolia continue to pay great time and energy into developing the technical skills of their athletes.

The 1985 world champion showed his favourite ashi-waza techniques before illustrating yoko-shiho-gatame hold. The Japanese master also demonstrated kuzushi drills, seoi-nage, ne-waza transitions and shime-waza to a receptive group of judoka and coaches.

Hosokawa said: "The Mongolian Judo Association officials and participants were very cheerful and they practiced in earnest. Especially, after Rio Olympics, they want to improve their judo skills. So I taught the classical judo which is the way in Japan."
