The ceremony was attended by the President of the Regional Government of Príncipe, Filipe Nascimento, representatives of the local media, the President of the Judo Global Association of São Tomé and Príncipe, André Rosa, and around 100 judoka, who took part in a demonstration of the discipline.
With this inauguration, the Judo Global Association now has three schools on Príncipe Island and six schools nationwide, strengthening its role as one of the leading organisations promoting sport and education in São Tomé and Príncipe.
The new school was established with the aim of increasing access to judo within the Ponta do Sol community, promoting values such as respect, discipline and friendship, encouraging social inclusion and providing a positive and healthy activity for children and young people.
According to André Rosa, President of the Judo Global Association of São Tomé and Príncipe, the opening of this school represents another step forward in the organisation’s mission, “We believe that judo is much more than a sport. It is a tool for education, inclusion and human development. We want more and more children and young people to have access to the benefits of practising judo, regardless of the community in which they live.”
The Judo Global Association has recorded significant growth in recent years. In 2025 alone, its activities involved around 650 participants, demonstrating the increasing impact of judo on the sport and social development of São Tomé and Príncipe.
The main institutional partners of the Judo Global Association include the International Judo Federation, the Faya Foundation, the the regional government of Príncipe, and the São Tomé and Príncipe Olympic Committee, organisations that have contributed to the strengthening and expansion of judo throughout the country.
