It is with great sadness that we have learned of the passing of Milvia Mendoza, President of the Panamanian Judo Federation.

A dedicated leader and passionate advocate for judo, Milvia Mendoza played a key role in the development and promotion of the sport in Panama and across the Pan-American region. Her commitment, energy and vision helped shape a new generation of judoka, leaving a lasting legacy within the judo community.

IJF President Marius Vizer spoke warmly, saying, “On behalf of the International Judo Federation and myself, we wish to express our deepest condolences on the sudden loss of the president, Milvia Mendoza. We will cherish her invaluable contribution and dedication to Panamanian judo in our memories and hearts. We extend our heartfelt condolences and affection to her family and friends, as well as to the Panamanian and Pan-American judo communities. May she rest in peace.”

During the 2025 World Championships, we had the privilege of meeting Milvia Mendoza and sharing her story, one deeply rooted in transmission, values and the human dimension of judo. She embodied the spirit of passing knowledge from one generation to the next, ensuring that judo would continue to grow beyond herself.

Her passing is a great loss for the global judo family. Her legacy, however, will endure through the many athletes, coaches and communities she inspired.
