The Panamerican Championships 2026 began with high intensity at the Panama Hotel in Panama City, bringing together 219 athletes from 25 nations, including the IJF Refugee Team. While recent editions have featured Oceania as an invited continent, this year’s event focused exclusively on Pan-American nations, showcasing the immense growth and depth of judo within the region. The opening day was defined by unexpected results and the diverse crowning of returning legends and new history-makers.

Olympic medallist Daniel Cargnin (BRA) delivered a masterclass in tactical judo to defeat Yonezuka (USA) and secure the gold medal.
