Following the season-opening event in Ulaanbaatar a week earlier, Qingdao offered another opportunity for athletes to measure themselves against the world's best while collecting valuable world ranking points. Across every category, established champions, experienced medallists and ambitious newcomers shared the tatami, creating a tournament in which no contest could be taken for granted and every round demanded complete commitment.
The host nation enjoyed an excellent competition, supported throughout by enthusiastic and knowledgeable spectators who created a vibrant atmosphere from the opening ceremony to the final ippon. China's athletes rewarded that support with several podium finishes, highlighting the continued progress of the country's programme and giving the home crowd plenty to celebrate over the three days.
Beyond the medal table, Qingdao once again demonstrated the global reach of the World Judo Tour. Athletes from every continent reached the final stages of the competition, illustrating the increasing competitiveness of international judo. As the Olympic cycle gathers momentum, margins continue to narrow and consistency is becoming just as important as moments of brilliance.
The tournament also confirmed the excellent standard of organisation delivered by the Chinese Judo Association. The local organising committee and their many volunteers worked to ensure that athletes, officials and spectators could enjoy the competition under the best possible conditions. From the first contest to the last, Qingdao provided a fitting stage for world-class judo.
With the Asian leg of the World Judo Tour now complete, attention will soon turn to South America. The circuit resumes with the Lima Grand Prix 2026, to be held from 14th to 16th August, where another important chapter of the journey towards Los Angeles 2028 will begin.
