The International Judo Federation is deeply saddened by the passing of Ali Shaherkani, a respected member of the global judo community whose lifelong dedication to the sport has left a lasting mark both on and off the tatami.

For many years, Mr Shaherkani served as an IJF international referee, officiating at the highest level of the sport. His expertise and professionalism saw him selected for numerous World Judo Tour events, culminating in his appointment to referee at the London 2012 Olympic Games, one of the greatest honours in an official's career.

Beyond his achievements as a referee, Ali Shaherkani devoted himself wholeheartedly to the development of judo. A tireless advocate for the sport in Saudi Arabia and across the international judo community, he played a significant role in expanding opportunities for judoka of all ages and backgrounds.
