On the second day of the 2026 Lima Grand Prix it was therefore logical to hold a ‘meet & greet’ with Peru’s young stars in the Videna Sport Complex. Scores of children and judo fans came to see them and take photos, special memories that will undoubtedly inspire a new generation of judoka. This is a significant impact of holding such a high level event in Peru’s capital, a lasting legacy that influences the whole judo community in the region.
There were no medals for Peru on the second day but the success was already logged and the atmosphere was jubilant accordingly. Therefore, the stands were vibrant for all the competitors of the middle weight categories, cheers and applause supporting all the spectacular judo on show.
All four winners today were debutants on the top step of the world Judo Tour podium. Dena Pohl (GER), Vlad Mitru (MDA), David Lima (BRA) and Seiko Watanabe (JPN) brought their A-game to Peru and offered up excellence on a golden platter.
Lima’s gold helped Brazil to stay at the top of the medal table, a position they occupied at the end of day one too. Now though, the second place position was in the hands of Moldova. Their team is having an extraordinary outing in Lima, delighting crowds with big throws and inventive techniques. Seventeen countries now have medals, from 3 continents. Day three could enhance this diversity further, 12 medals still up for grabs.
