In 2023, at just 19 years old, Sardalashvili put himself on a senior world podium when he won a bronze medal in Doha. His judo was raw, his energy unpredictable, but he had a spark and commanded attention.

“I was a baby when I was world champion for the first time in juniors and then also in seniors but then I became European champion too. Now I have a new senior world medal.”

Was that untamed teenager in Doha just lucky? Giorgi Sardalashvili’s results say otherwise, guiding all onlookers to understand that his exciting, innovative, fully engaged style is what makes him a popular figure so early in his career. Gradually he has refined his judo, tamed some of the wild, but not too much. “In judo, it’s never luck. There is always hard training.” He is clear, work brought him the results.

Hard at work in Baku.

“My family is the most important part of my background, my wife is always supporting me. Now I’m a father too; this was my first competition as a father. My daughter is just two months old. This medal is for her.” Hard work, a strong support system and a love of judo; these are the elements that produce the excellence seen in Giorgi Sardalashvili.

Just 23 years old, this young Georgian is already the owner of three senior world medals. He is building a special career, one we cannot wait to see grow in the years to come.
