The International Judo Federation in cooperation with the African Judo Union and the Algerian Judo Federation organised a two-day seminar from May 23-24 2022 in the city Oran, where the upcoming Continental Championships will take part. This seminar acted as rehearsal for the Mediterranean Games that will follow in five weeks.

The seminar was opened by IJF Vice President and AJU President Mr. Randrianasoloniaiko and IJF Education Director Mr. Meridja. It was designed for referees and coaches and covered topics using 174 videos selected from a total of 500 videos by the EJU Refereeing Commission. After the seminar in Lisbon, Portugal, the same seminar was held for the Pan-American and Oceanian coaches and referees in Lima, Peru and for Asian coaches and referees in Almaty, Kazakhstan. The seminar analysed, demonstrated and visualised the continuity of actions, landings, scoring of judo techniques, and penalties.

Of the 142 participants attending the seminar in Oran, 61 were coaches and 81 were referees, showing the large interest of both groups in refereeing. Due to the large number of participation requests, the Algerian Judo Federation limited the number of participants of the 25 judo regions to two participants each. Taking into consideration all the participants, the average age was 47 and the average Dan grade was between 3 and 4.

Hotel Le Meridien hosted both the seminar and the IJF International Referee Examination. The candidates for the examination had the unique opportunity to update their knowledge, ask questions and clarify any uncertainties before their interviews, theoretical refereeing tests and the four days of practical examinations.

The last seminar in 2022 will take part in Perth, Australia, with the goal of maintaining a worldwide level of refereeing education and development across all continents.
