Lausanne will host its first ever judo grand slam from 28th to 30th August 2026, marking a significant milestone for both Swiss sport and the international judo community. Held at the Vaudoise Arena, the event will form part of the official calendar of the International Judo Federation (IJF) and will bring together the world’s top judoka for three days of high-level competition.

This inaugural edition will stand out globally as the first grand slam to combine elite, Para-judo, Deaf-judo and Adapted judo competitions within a single event. Those events governed by specific IJF rules, will share the spotlight alongside traditional elite contests. This innovative format reflects a growing commitment to inclusivity and equal visibility in international sport.

Around 900 athletes are expected to participate, including approximately 600 elite competitors and 300 athletes from para-deaf-adapted judo, representing more than 50 countries. The event is also anticipated to attract close to 12,000 spectators, underlining its strong appeal both nationally and internationally.

Switzerland will be represented by several leading athletes. Among them is Daniel Eich, a seven-time medallist on the World Judo Tour, alongside rising talents from the Canton of Vaud such as Binta Ndiaye and April Fohouo, the current U21 world champion. Competing on home soil offers a unique opportunity for these athletes to showcase their abilities in front of a local audience.
