“Judo is not only a sport but a way of life” is a famous quote in the world of Judo. The Malta Judo Federation has embarked on a program to revamp itself and reach out to the whole island, taking Judo in schools and to the youth living in Malta.
Summer school children

Last summer, thanks to the support of the International Judo Federation, 1500 school children had judo lessons at the National Dojo. This project was run with Skolasajf managed by klabb316, which is the Government run after-school care service for children between the ages of 3 and 16. These young students got not only a taste of Judo on the mat, but also learnt about the values of Judo. This great initiative will be repeated this summer.

During the scholastic year, demonstrations and activities were held in collaboration with schools at their sport fests, including St Albert the Great, San Benedettu College and MCAST. Klabb316 also offered judo as an option for their sport activities in one locality.

As one of the Judo activities to close this scholastic year and get ready for summer, the Malta Judo Federation organized a fun afternoon at the National Dojo, where young Judoka and the National Squad played games on the tatami. The smiles on their faces showed clearly how much they were having fun letting their hair down, but at the same time never forgetting about the moral code of judo: respect, politeness, self-control, sincerity, modesty, honour, courage and friendship.

One of the guests of this activity was Mr Roberto Orlando, Judo coach, graduated from the IJF Academy, working in South Africa with migrants and refugees, on a project funded by the International Judo Federation, UNHCR and other stakeholders. At the end of this enjoyable event, the father of Maltese Judo, Mr Joseph Caruana, known amongst the Judoka in Malta as iz-Zuzu, together with Roberto, presented the International Judo Federation Judo for the World Mascot to all those present.
