The momentum created in Mongolia now continues in Qingdao, where another crucial set of World Ranking List points will be on offer. While the Olympic cycle has only just begun, every contest already carries significance as athletes seek to establish themselves early in the four-year race towards the Games.
Following the successful inaugural edition of the Qingdao Grand Prix in 2025, the world's best judoka return to one of China's most vibrant coastal cities. The Chinese Judo Association has built a strong reputation as an experienced organiser of World Judo Tour events, having previously hosted grand prix, grand slam and World Judo Masters competitions. Qingdao's return to the calendar further strengthens China's long-standing contribution to the international development of judo.
IJF President Mr Marius Vizer welcomed the judo family back to China, "Welcome back to China! The city of Qingdao is preparing to open its doors to the World Judo Tour again. We can be sure we are in safe hands here."
Highlighting the host city itself, Mr Vizer added, "This is a modern city with a bustling and popular seaport, while also being a major business centre for the country. The mix of traditional and contemporary Chinese architecture with Western European influences offers visitors a vibrant experience, one our judo family will undoubtedly enjoy."
He concluded by wishing "All participants, organisers, volunteers and spectators an outstanding tournament and a cultural adventure to live long in the memory."
Chinese Judo Association President Mr Xugang Zhan also expressed his enthusiasm. "Building on the great success of last year's edition, we are delighted to bring together the global judo community here in Qingdao. Blessed with breathtaking coastal scenery, profound cultural heritage and dynamic urban vitality, Qingdao blends tradition with modernity perfectly and is now fully ready to host this world-class sporting event."
He continued, "Judo carries far more meaning than being just a competitive sport. China has long been dedicated to the development and promotion of judo worldwide. Hosting the Qingdao Grand Prix 2026 demonstrates our firm commitment to strengthening international exchanges, deepening co-operation and forging friendships across the globe through this sport."
