The opening day of the first judo grand slam in the history of Tajikistan was eagerly awaited by everyone, first and foremost by the athletes and their respective delegations. It must be said that the stakes are high because there are not many possibilities left to achieve results and qualifying points for the Paris 2024 Games. The Tajikistan Grand Slam 2024 is one of those events that can play a crucial role and still change everything.

The first contests were awaited by the organisers who have worked hard in recent weeks to deliver a world-class event. After the success of the first grand prix in 2023, this grand slam is a great test and a major challenge.

The competition was also eagerly awaited by the Tajik public, whose fervour we had already tasted last year and who once again this year demonstrated their love for judo and the beautiful spectacle it delivers.

The anticipation generated was quickly replaced by the energy that emerged from the first five categories. From -48kg to -57kg, including -60kg, -66kg and -52kg, everyone had something to enjoy. We must of course highlight the performance of the local hero Obid Dzhebov who was able to ignite the Kasri Tennis Stadium in Dushanbe throughout the day.

After this first day of judo, we can already talk about the success of the Dushanbe Grand Slam 2024. The next two days will serve to confirm this trend and to go beyond the simple impression of a job well done. Starting tomorrow, four new categories will be in action.
