It is with deep regret that the international judo community was informed that on 7th May 2025, at the age of 87, Kazimierz Jaremczak, an outstanding judoka, coach, referee and sports activist, passed away.

Kazimierz Jaremczak was a five-time Polish judo champion, a bronze medallist at the European Championships (1965), and Polish rugby champion (1960) as a player of Lechia Gdańsk.

After ending his competitive career, he served as a coach of AZS Gdańsk, was a co-founder of KS AZS AWFiS Gdańsk and was also an international referee, chairing the EJU and IJF refereeing committees. He was twice a referee at the Olympic Games (1984, 1988), as well as at world and European championships. In the years 1990-1994 he served as the president of the Polish Judo Association.

IJF President, Mr Marius Vizer, declared, "It is with profound sadness that the International Judo Family has learnt of the passing of our esteemed Judo Family Member Kazimierz Jaremczak, a prominent figure in Polish Judo and sport.

Kazimierz Jaremczak’s lifelong dedication to Judo leaves an enduring legacy. His passion was evident at each level: as a celebrated high-level judoka, champion, coach, referee and experienced sports administrator. His contributions and steadfast commitment to the development of Judo and the promotion of its values in Poland and beyond will always be remembered and cherished.

On behalf of the International Judo Federation as well as personally, I would like to express our heartfelt condolences to you, the Polish Judo Family, as well as to the close family and friends of Kazimierz Jaremczak."
