The third and final day of the Qingdao Grand Prix has brought an atmosphere to make everyone smile; this is always the result when the judo is at such a high level and the organisers have spared no energy in providing the best conditions for everyone involved.

Thank you to the Chinese Judo Association for their hospitality and effort. We have enjoyed the generosity of the volunteers who have looked after the athletes, the organisers and the guests as if they were all long-time friends.

Volunteers celebrating a job well done.

As the curtain comes down on the last contests of this World Judo Tour event, Japan were the clear leaders at the top of the medal table with 5 gold medals and even without a finalist in this third day, their lead could not be caught. China delivered an excellent performance with 18 judoka reaching the top 8 of their respective categories. A handful of medals, including the outstanding gold medal of Wenna Zhuang on day 1, points to a re-energised future for the Chinese team.

The IJF now turns its focus to Pan-America, beginning with World Championships Juniors in Lima a week from now, followed by the Lima Grand Prix and then Guadalajara Grand Prix. There is a great deal to look forward to in the coming weeks and we hope you’ll join us in Peru, in Mexico or online via JudoTV, to celebrate the best juniors and seniors of the moment.
