The ceremony began with a welcome to the guests of the federation, followed by a cultural performance that included extravagant costumes, flowing dances and energising music.
Then the welcome address was given by Tajikistan Judo Federation President Mr Ismoil Mahmadzoir, “Dear distinguished guests, dear spectators, the development of sport and physical education is of paramount importance as a cornerstone shaping a healthy and resilient generation within our society."
"Since the inception of state independence, the president of the Republic of Tajikistan, leader of the nation, honourable Emomali Rahmon, has placed particular emphasis on the advancement of sport, the promotion of a healthy lifestyle and the training of professional athletes, adopting a series of state programmes for the sustainable growth of this field in the country.
Taking this opportunity, I wish to express the heartfelt appreciation of the entire athletic community to the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, the esteemed leader of the nation, honourable Emomali Rahmon, for his unwavering support. The result of such continuous support is that Tajik athletes actively participate in prestigious international competitions, including grand prix, grand slams, Asian and world championships, proudly raising the national flag of the Republic of Tajikistan on the global stage.
This year, our country's athletes have participated in international competitions with a high sense of responsibility, securing 4 gold, 4 silver and 3 bronze medals. It is a source of profound pride for the Tajik nation that over the last three years, our athletes have demonstrated consistent excellence, winning a total of 195 medals, including 44 gold, 51 silver and 100 bronze medals."
"We now intend to host the World Judo Masters tournament this year, which is regarded as one of the most prestigious competitions within the IJF World Judo Tour calendar. I am confident that hosting the Masters will provide a favourable foundation for the athletes as they prepare for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
It is a great pleasure to note that in today's event, 240 athletes from 34 countries around the world are competing. I am fully confident that this tournament will be held at a high organisational level and will mark an historic milestone for Tajik judo.
I wish all of you, dear guests, a pleasant and memorable stay in our beautiful city of Dushanbe. I wish all the participants of the competition
the best of luck and continued success.”
IJF Executive board member Mrs Louisa Galea then spoke on behalf of the IJF, “Dear President Ismoil Mahmodzoir, distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen, on behalf of the International Judo Federation, I commend the Tajikistan Judo Federation for this excellent grand slam. Your progress is clear across all levels, from grassroots to high performance and event organisation. This success is further proven by your nomination to host the 2026 World Judo Masters right here in Dushanbe in December. It is an honour to be here among so many friends. Thank you, Tajikistan!”
The ceremony closed with a live rendition of the Tajikistan national anthem, the whole arena filled with voice as the crowd joined in.
Day 2 has finished in the best possible way for the grand slam’s hosts, with Muhiddin Asadulloev and Somon Makhmadbekov winning their respective categories and propelling Tajikistan to the top of the medal table.
Day 3, heavyweight day, will begin at midday with the final block at 5pm and all contests can be followed on our comprehensive platform JudoTV.
