Over 350 young judoka from all corners of the continent visited the city to be part of the Asian Cadet and Junior Championships. Uzbekistan, the hosts, performed brilliantly at home, winning 14 gold medals in total, 7 from cadets and 7 from juniors. This placed them at the top of the medal table at the end of the final day.
Tashkent is becoming a real hub for sport and particularly judo having hosted grand prix and grand slam events, world championships and Asian championships. Already, preparations are underway for the 2025 Asian Youth Games.
Mr Azizjon Kamilov commented, "It is a great pleasure to host big judo events in Uzbekistan. Tashkent is becoming a capital of sports and we are glad to be part of this success. It is also very important for us to develop youth sports and that's why we decided to host the Asian cadet and junior flagship event in Tashkent. We also thank the government of Uzbekistan, under the leadership of the President Mirziyoyev, for supporting sport development in Uzbekistan."
