Neil Eckersley is a retired judoka from Great Britain who represented his country at the 1984 Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles, USA. On 4th of August 1984 he won a bronze medal in the men's –‍60 kg category but Neil is not only a great judoka. Today a seventh dan, he is also a recognised artist, who just published a book.

‘We are Olympians’ is a poetry book with illustrations and words by the author. In this book, he has captured the true essence of what it is to be an Olympian. Neil explains that Olympians are known for their resilience, character and dedication to excellence within their chosen sport, but Olympians are also vulnerable like everybody else.

Neil has incorporated within the book, the core values of the Olympic movement which are friendship and excellence but most of all respect. For this he received a letter of appreciation and support from the President of the International Olympic Committee Thomas Bach.

"My journey to becoming an Olympian artist and the achievements which have followed would have never happened without the kind support and backing of the IJF President, Marius Vizer. I am honoured to promote our amazing sport of judo to a wider audience with these artistic endeavours," he said.
