The +100 kg preliminaries brought a perfect crescendo to the day’s action. Lukas Krpalek (CZE), the double Olympic champion and double world champion, once again demonstrated his class in a demanding route to the final, while Ushangi Kokauri (AZE) bulldozed through his side of the draw with speed and conviction. Both arrived in goodz form for the ultimate showdown, a powerful and emotional conclusion to the Guadalajara Grand Prix.
Final, Lukas Krpalek (CZE) vs Ushangi Kokauri (AZE).

Final

Lukas Krpalek (CZE) vs Ushangi Kokauri (AZE)

The opening exchange nearly unbalanced Kokauri but the Azerbaijani held his focus. Moments later, as Krpalek dropped to one knee to defend, Kokauri countered perfectly, turning him over and transitioning smoothly into groundwork to secure victory. His first-ever grand prix gold was claimed and it was the sixth medal for Azerbaijan in Guadalajara. It was a fine performance from a team clearly reinvigorated after last week’s struggles, their extra days of adaptation in Mexico paying off in style.

Bronze Medal Contests

Rafael Buzacarini (BRA) vs Alex Semenenko (USA)

Rafael Buzacarini battled deep into golden score to claim his 15th grand prix medal. After a gruelling contest, a third penalty against Semenenko decided the outcome. Once again, Buzacarini showed remarkable resilience and longevity, remaining a constant presence among the elite of heavyweight judo.

Tieman Diaby (FRA) vs Martti Puumalainen (FIN)

Martti Puumalainen allowed his less experienced opponent no chance to gain control. With a relentless series of shoulder attacks, he broke down Diaby’s defence before finishing with an osaekomi for ippon. Another medal for Finland shows a nation steadily asserting itself among the world’s best. Puumalainen, once a World Judo Masters champion, continues to lead the charge, opening a path that his compatriots now eagerly follow.
