The dust of the 2025 World Junior Championships in Lima, Peru, has barely settled, yet the world of judo is already stirring once more with another major event, this time back on the IJF World Judo Tour. Still in Peru, this time it is the turn of the world’s best senior judoka to take centre stage at the Lima Grand Prix 2025.

This new addition to the IJF calendar marks an important step in the post-Paris 2024 cycle, as athletes begin to build momentum towards the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. After the Chinese leg of the tour in late September, the circuit now returns to Pan American soil, before moving on to to Guadalajara, Mexico, but first, all eyes are on Lima.

A total of 284 athletes from 48 nations will compete for honours and valuable World Ranking List points. While the official Olympic qualification period will begin next June at the Ulaanbaatar Grand Slam, strong performances here could already prove decisive. A high world ranking secures a seeded position, an undeniable advantage in future competitions.

The official draw ceremony in Lima took place today in the presence of distinguished guests, including Mr Carlos Zegarra Presser, IJF Vice-President and President of the Pan American Judo Confederation; Mr Kosei Inoue, world and Olympic champion and IJF Sport Director; Mrs Tina Trstinjak, world and Olympic champion and IJF Referee Director; Mrs Maria Martínez Murciego, President of the Peruvian Judo Federation; Mr Vladimir Armenteros Rodríguez, Technical Director of the Peruvian Technical Committee; Mrs Kimberlie Rivera Tello, PJC Sport Director.

I am confident that the coming days will once again be a success. All the best to the national federations and our athletes; may you enjoy your stay in Lima.”
