The IJF Ordinary Congress, which statutorily takes place every two years, is an opportunity to take stock of everything that has happened since the previous Congress (Budapest 2021). The one in Doha, Qatar, was no exception. It also made it possible to discover what the next two years would be made of. It was indeed today that the elections for the position of General Secretary and General Treasurer of the organisation were held.

Thus, to succeed Mr Jean-Luc Rougé as General Secretary, Dr Lisa Allan was elected unanimously by the delegates. Linchpin of the operation of the IJF for many years, Lisa Allan was, before becoming IJF Events Director and now General Secretary, the Competition Manager of the London 2012 Games. With vast experience, she takes over from Jean-Luc Rougé, in a smooth transfer of role.

Dr Lisa Allan said, "I'm grateful to the British Judo Association and to UK Sport for having supported my candidature and I am thankful to all the voters from the national federations for the trust they put in me to become the new IJF General Secretary. I am happy to be able to continue the fantastic work undertaken by Jean-Luc Rougé in the past years."

Jean-Luc Rougé declared, "It was a natural transmission. I am now 73 years old and I want to concentrate on judo and on what interests me the most, like the grades, the education and many more subjects. It was time to pass on the baton. I am happy that I could serve our sport as General Secretary and today I am happy to end that phase of my judo life."

Mr Jean-Luc Rougé will remain in the IJF Executive Committee and will now concentrate on special missions.

Naser Al Tamimi

During the Congress, Naser Al Tamimi was also reelected as General Treasurer of the organisation. "Naser has been a key person in the development of our federation for many years. A man of conviction, a gentlemen, he has helped the IJF to be in the good shape it is in today and has aided the development of our sport in the region. He was one of the initiators of the rapprochement between Israel and U.A.E. for instance," said President Vizer, before adding, "I congratulate Mr Rougé for everything he gave to judo, Lisa Allan, for what she has already done and will do in the future for our sport, and Naser for his passionate commitment.”

The validation of the official entry of Vlad Marinescu, IJF Director General, into the Executive Committee, was also approved by the Congress.
