The World Combat Games have been in full swing since the opening ceremony a few days ago. Monday 23rd October will be focussing on judo and on the mixed team competition, during which 14 teams will be competing, a total of 83 athletes. Gender parity will be almost perfectly respected since 42 men and 41 women will be in action under the colours of their respective national teams.

Today the draw took place in the Saudi capital in the presence of coaches, referees and officials from the IJF, the Saudi Judo Federation and the organising committee.

Dr Lisa Allan, IJF Secretary General, after introducing the guests, said, “Dear judo family, it is a pleasure to welcome you all to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia for the World Combat Games 2023. On behalf of our President, Mr Marius Vizer, and the entire judo family, we appreciate your presence.

Thank you to SportAccord, to the local organising committee and the KSA Judo Federation for all their efforts organising this event. It’s a beginning for a new event and we hope there will be many more.”

Dr. Abdulaziz Albassam, President of the KSA Judo Federation declared, “Welcome to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. We want to see you more often.

Thank you to the IJF for its commitment and its support. Judo is a united force and together we are building an avenue for growing judo in KSA and in the region.

Thank you to all the women and men who behind the scenes made this event possible and made our dream to host major events a reality. I wish all of you a safe, successful and sustainable event.”

Mr Teodor Pop, the IJF technical delegate for the event, gave all the useful information to the delegations. The competition will begin at 12:00, with preliminary rounds on two tatami; the final block from 18:00 on one tatami.
