The first edition took place in the new city of Alamein in the north-west of the country, on the Mediterranean coast. Inaugurated in 2018, the city was the ideal location to launch this new project.
Mohamed Motei said, "This event is meant to support our lovely sport and help us spread it throughout all our Egyptian cities. This will ultimately help us build a strong national team."
The event took place over four days and seven judo sessions, for a total of 350 participants. Hiroshi Izumi, Olympic silver medallist from Japan, now the coach of the Egyptian team, also a world champion back in 2005, is already in Egypt. He and Sugoi Uriarte of Spain, a world medallist and European champion, were among the animators of the event, together with Egyptian champions.
The federation explained, "We want to concentrate on the young generation, under 15 years old, so they can learn more about judo to build the future of the sport in Egypt."
Following the success of this first Judo on the Beach programme, the federation, supported by the Presidential house and the Ministry of Youth and Sport, is already planning a new edition that will take place during the winter in Sharm El-Sheikh, at the southern tip of the Sinai Desert. It promises to be an excellent addition to the Egyptian calendar.
