Thrilling Finale: Highlights from the IBSA Grand Prix Tokyo 2023

Day 2 of the IBSA Grand Prix Tokyo 2023 was full of action. A variety of national anthems were played through the awarding ceremonies which is always a good indicator of a positive and well attended event.

Tokyo is the last event of the year and today is the last day of the event. However there are 3 more IBSA events to be organised in 2024 before the Paralympic Games in Paris. They will be held in following cities: Hedelberg, Germany; Antalya, Turkiye and Tbilisi, Georgia.

W: J1 -57kg, J1 -70kg, J1 +70kg; J2 -70kg, J2+70kg;

M: J1 -90kg, J1 +90kg; J2 -90kg, J2 +90kg;

The Referee Director of IBSA Judo, Mr Kenichi Shoshida, commented on the technical aspects of the event, “On the first day, the judo was excellent despite many technical victories and difficult matches. I especially loved the contest in the -73kg J2 group; the Japanese athlete was very good and had to use everything in his armoury when he competed against the Kazakh athlete.

On this second day we saw a higher level of the athletes still. I think their preparation has been very good and I am happy to see the evidence of that here. Because they are more prepared, they performed fewer non-scoring attacks. It is important to recognise the technical side of things alongside the combination of a strong heart and strong spirit, making them warriors, resulting in a more technical judo.
