For three exciting days, Pan-American and Oceanian judo came together at their joint Continental Championships in Rio de Janeiro. This event, marking the third occasion these regions have united in competition, took place in the imposing Arena Carioca 1, located in the Olympic Park that hosted the 2016 Rio Olympics.

More than 200 athletes from 17 countries participated in this event, seeking not only medals but also the coveted bicontinental title. From the first day of competition, the intensity and level of skill were evident, promising an event full of memorable moments.

Brazil dominated the medal tally in the cadet category securing 11 gold medals, followed by the United States of America with 4 gold medals and then Canada. In the junior category, Brazil once again shone with 8 gold medals, closely followed by the United States with 5 golds, and Canada again in third.

The competition for mixed teams offered an additional element of excitement, with Brazil taking the gold medal in the cadet category, Chile claiming the silver. In the junior category, Brazil repeated their feat by securing the gold, followed by Canada with silver and Chile with bronze.

This championship was not only a celebration of the talent and dedication of young judoka from Pan America and Oceania but also a testament to the unity and camaraderie that characterise this sport. Undoubtedly, this event has laid the groundwork for an exciting and promising future for judo in both regions.
