With two men’s titles claimed, by Khushnud Sultanov (-50 kg) and Khushnudbek Burkhonov (-55 kg), along with a brilliant victory from Dilafruz Boltaboeva (-40 kg), Uzbekistan logically sits at the top of the medal table. Beyond the results, it was the manner of their wins that impressed observers: power, technical mastery and tactical intelligence. These three champions already embody the future of Uzbek judo, which is clearly on the rise.
International depth and diversity
The fourth gold medal of the day went to Nadezhda Mishenkina (IJF), who impressed with her composure and determination. Behind Uzbekistan’s dominance, the international depth of the competition was striking: 12 countries have already stepped onto the podium and 18 nations reached the final block. The global momentum of cadet judo is well underway.
Türkiye holds second place currently, thanks to two silver medals, followed by consistent performances from Italy and Brazil. Azerbaijan, despite ranking only sixth, showed strong depth with one bronze medal, a fifth place and two sevenths.
Japan and France yet to make their mark
Absent on this opening day due to having no athletes in the lightest divisions, Japan will soon enter the competition and are expected to play a major role in the coming days. France, meanwhile, has yet to appear on the medal table. While surprising at first glance, this reflects a longer-term approach; for many French judoka, these championships are as much about gaining experience as they are about results.
A formative and educational championship
One of the striking features of this Cadet World Championships is the contrast of judoka who already appear technically accomplished, yet whose youthful faces remind us they are still at the very beginning of their careers. More than just a competition, this event is a teaching and learning ground, where future champions experience the demands and intensity of the international stage.
At the Asics Arena, a packed spectator tribune created a warm, enthusiastic atmosphere from start to finish. The energy in the stands made for a perfect launch to what is already a thrilling edition.
