From standing atop the world podium to earning Olympic silver, Saeid Mollaei has already left a lasting mark on the sport. Yet beyond medals and titles, his story has resonated across the global judo community as a symbol of integrity and fair play, recognised by the receiving of the International Fair Play Award.
Now, his experience will serve a broader purpose. As judo continues to play a leading role within the Paralympic movement, the appointment comes at a pivotal moment on the road to the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games. But this is more than a nomination, it is a step forward in a shared vision, one aimed at making judo more inclusive, more accessible and more impactful for athletes with visual impairments worldwide.
Already involved as a member of the IJF–IBSA Joint Commission, Mollaei has contributed to strengthening the bridge between IBSA and the IJF. In his new role, he will help guide the development of IBSA Judo, bringing structure, energy and a deep understanding of what the sport represents, both on and beyond the tatami.
Supported by the leadership of Marius Vizer, the IJF remains firmly committed to advancing inclusive judo in close partnership with IBSA. Together, they continue to build pathways for athletes, ensuring that talent, determination and passion can flourish regardless of circumstance.
For Mollaei, this appointment is not a conclusion, but a continuation, a new way to give back to the sport that shaped him. And for the global judo family, it is a powerful reminder that judo is not only about competition, it is about values, opportunity and the ability to change lives.
