The announcement was eagerly awaited by the judo community. It is now official, judo will be on the programme of the 2026 Commonwealth Games which will take place in Glasgow, Scotland.

On 22nd October 2024, the organisers officially declared, "The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) is pleased to officially confirm Glasgow as the host city of the 2026 Commonwealth Games. The 23rd edition of the Commonwealth Games will take place in Scotland from Thursday 23rd July to Sunday 2nd August 2026, returning to the city 12 years after the hugely successful 2014 Commonwealth Games."

These Games will mark a crucial first step in redefining the concept of the Commonwealth Games so that they best meet the expectations of the future. The idea is to make it a model that is collaborative, flexible and also sustainable. The Glasgow 2026 Games are based on a 10-sport programme. This will take advantage of the existing sports, transport and accommodation infrastructure within a 13-kilometre radius of the city centre.

Judo, a major sport in the Commonwealth, is pleased to officially be part of this great adventure, which allows many countries to shine at international level.

The CGF added, "With over 500,000 tickets to be made available at a future date, there will be around 3,000 of the best athletes competing from up to 74 Commonwealth nations and territories that represent 2.5 billion people – one third of the world’s population. Para sport will once again be fully integrated as a key priority and point of difference for the Games, with six Para sports included on the sport programme."
