Tashkent has established itself as one of the most dynamic destinations on the international circuit. As IJF President Marius Vizer underlined in his welcome message, the city represents far more than a competition venue.
“This capital city is a special meeting place in Central Asia, a thriving hub of activity across the arts, business and sport,” he said, highlighting the unique energy surrounding the event. Surrounded by both history and progress, Tashkent has become a favourite stop for the world’s top athletes.
Following the success of Paris could appear challenging, yet President Vizer expressed confidence in Uzbekistan’s distinctive contribution to the Tour. “Uzbekistan has stamped its own style on its slice of the World Judo Tour, making the Tashkent Grand Slam an unmissable event,” he declared. He also emphasised that the judo in Tashkent is certain to be spectacular, accompanied by a warm welcome and exceptional organisation.
That sense of pride is equally strong within the host nation. Uzbekistan Judo Federation President Azizjon Kamilov spoke of the country’s sustained development and long-term investment in the sport, “Uzbekistan continues to strengthen its position within the international judo community through consistent development and long-term investment,” he explained.
In recent years, Uzbek judo has demonstrated steady progress across all age categories. A notable milestone came at the OTP Group Sofia World Championships Cadets 2025, where the Uzbek cadet team delivered outstanding results, confirming the strength of the country’s youth development system.
Today, judo plays an essential role in promoting discipline, respect and healthy lifestyles among young people throughout Uzbekistan. Hosting the OTP Group Tashkent Grand Slam 2026, President Kamilov stressed, it is “both an honour and a responsibility.” The organisers are committed to meeting the highest IJF standards and providing excellent conditions for athletes and guests alike.
President Vizer concluded by wishing smooth travel and success to all participants, while thanking coaches, organisers, volunteers and judoka for their continued dedication and positivity.
With the modern Humo Arena ready to host three days of world-class competition, Tashkent once again stands prepared to deliver elite performance, passionate support and a celebration of judo’s enduring values. The World Judo Tour 2026 continues and in Uzbekistan another compelling chapter is about to unfold.
